During the hearing on Friday, the Delhi High Court has ordered to provide such gadgets to students of Economically Weaker Section (EWS) in government schools along with private schools and private unaided schools, through which they can do online classes. During the hearing, the court has asked the government and private schools to ensure that students of weaker sections get the facility of online classes. These government schools also include Kendriya Vidyalaya schools, where gadgets have been asked to be made available.
On this occasion, the court also said that all students should get the benefit of online classes. The court has also asked for an internet pack along with the gadget.
In its order, the Delhi high court has also clarified that the cost of an internet package along with such gadget-digital equipment is not a part of the tuition fees. The court also said that EWS and DG students are to be provided free of cost by private non-accredited schools and government schools.
A bench of Justices Manmohan and Sanjeev Narula held that private non-accredited schools would be entitled to claim reimbursement of reasonable costs for the purchase of equipment and internet packages from the state under the Right to Education (RTE) Act, 2009.
With this, the bench has ordered that a 3-member committee should be set up to work to speed up the process of identifying and supplying gadgets to the poor.
Here, let us know that for almost 6 months, schools across the country including Delhi-NCR have been studying online, but students from weaker income groups are not able to take advantage of online classes in the absence of mobile phones. The situation regarding the coronavirus infection is not yet under control, in such a situation, it is believed that in the coming time, studies will be conducted only through online classes.
Note that recently, a petition filed by Justice for All, a non-governmental institution, said that more than 50,000 weaker income students studying in private schools in Delhi are not able to avail online classes. The major reason for this is not due to resources. This petition said that schools have been closed for a long time due to Coronavirus infection and these students are not able to study online due to lack of laptops or mobile.
